The 2nd RNA Biology and Therapeutics Retreat

On November 14th, Moffitt Cancer Center and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital jointly organized the 2nd RNA Biology Retreat held at Moffitt Cancer Center. This initiative, launched the previous year by faculty from both institutions, aims to showcase the research and work being conducted by trainees in the RNA field. The event creates an excellent opportunity for attendees to network and foster friendships among the trainees from both institutions.

A keynote speaker, chosen from an institution close to Tampa Bay, is a highlight of the event. This year, Dr. Rolf Renne from the University of Florida was invited to deliver the keynote address. He and his students provided a fascinating perspective on the complexity and genetic regulation of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), illustrating their research in the RNA field.

The event featured 16 abstracts, with 8 selected for oral presentations and 8 for poster presentations. During both sessions, postdoctoral researchers had an opportunity to learn from one another, build connections, and share their unique research findings.

Being a trainee-oriented event, Postdocs from both institutions are selected to organize the event. This year, Sri Amruthaa Sankaranarayanan from Dr. Ranjan Perera’s laboratory and Marcos Jaso-Vera from Xiangbo Ruan’s laboratory were appointed as the organizers from the JHACH.

Looking ahead, the event is scheduled to be hosted at our institution next year, bringing together RNA scientists from across the Tampa Bay area.
