Post Doc Association
Vision & Goal
The vision of the IFBR-Postdoc Association (IFBR-PDA) is to foster a supportive and enriching environment for postdoctoral scholars. We aim to enhance the professional and personal development of our members by providing resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy. We strive to facilitate career advancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community building. By promoting a culture of inclusivity and diversity, we create an environment where all postdocs can thrive and achieve their career aspirations. We are committed to representing the interests of postdoctoral scholars, ensuring their voices are heard in university policies and decisions, and promoting their contributions to the scientific community.
IFBR-PDA isn't the sole postdoc association at Johns Hopkins. Postdocs in the School of Medicine are encouraged to join our community and also explore our affiliated association with the JHPDA! This collaboration at Johns Hopkins University seeks to strengthen intercampus connections and professional growth through shared resources, joint events, and a unified support network for postdoctoral researchers.
Events and Efforts
The IFBR-Postdoc Association organizes various events and initiatives to support the professional and personal development of its members. These include:
- Postdoc Research Seminar Series: This offers a platform for postdoc fellows to showcase their research projects, engage with peers, and receive valuable feedback from experienced researchers. This facilitates practice in articulating ideas, improving public speaking and communication abilities, and collaborating with like-minded individuals within or outside the institute.
- Happy Hours: The Happy Hour events are designed to foster a sense of community and relaxation among postdoctoral scholars. Held monthly at local venues, these informal gatherings provide a welcoming space for postdocs to unwind, socialize, and share experiences outside the academic setting. Happy Hours offer a unique opportunity for networking, allowing attendees to connect with colleagues from different departments and disciplines in a relaxed environment. By facilitating meaningful connections and promoting work-life balance, these events contribute to the overall well-being and professional growth of the postdoctoral community.
Additionally, we advocate for postdocs by participating in postdoc committees, addressing issues related to working conditions, benefits, and career advancement. Through these efforts, we aim to enhance the postdoctoral experience, fostering a collaborative and thriving scientific environment.
